In an era where technology is rapidly advancing and changing the way we live our lives, businesses must adapt to keep up with the pace of change. Hemas PLC, one of Sri Lanka’s largest conglomerates, is at the forefront of this trend, having collaborated with ODDLY, Sri Lanka’s top User Experience (UX) consultancy to develop a virtual reality proof of concept (PoC) for a retail shopping experience.
The PoC involved 3D scanning Hemas PLC’s retail outlet, which allowed users to navigate the store using a VR headset and add items to a virtual shopping cart. With subsequent iterations, the PoC provided a fully immersive 3D environment where users could point and scroll through items, view product details, and add them to their virtual cart.
ODDLY used the A-frame webVR platform to develop the prototype, which demonstrated the potential for virtual reality to revolutionize the way we shop. By immersing customers in an interactive and dynamic environment, the technology could disrupt traditional retail commerce by offering a unique and exciting shopping experience.
As a leading product design and strategy consultancy in Sri Lanka, ODDLY specializes in providing user experience consultancy, product design, and product strategy consultancy services to a range of clients. Hemas PLC partnership with ODDLY demonstrates the company’s commitment to innovation and its willingness to explore new technologies to enhance the customer experience.
“Prototyping as a key tool to drive product innovation.” said Deane Jayamanne, director at ODDLY consulting. “By creating tangible representations of their ideas, we are able to quickly test and refine our designs, ultimately leading to more successful products. We are happy that Hemas have taken this iterative approach to product innovation”.
Hemas’ collaboration with ODDLY in developing a virtual reality PoC for a retail shopping experience demonstrates the company’s forward-thinking approach to business and its willingness to embrace emerging technologies. With this prototype, Hemas PLC has taken the first step towards transforming the way customers shop, and ODDLY’s expertise and innovative solutions have played a critical role in bringing this vision to life.
